Sometimes, I still can’t believe it’s true. Because almost seven years ago, I weighed about 250 pounds. And four years ago, I hit a huge goal: I hit my goal of a 100 pound weight loss! I hit this huge goal by focusing on being kind to my body, changing my eating habits, and moving more—no strict diets or surgery. If you want to see more about how I started, you can check out that post here.
Now, four years later, I’m still maintaining a 100 pound weight loss! But what I’m doing nowadays is starting to look different. As I’ve gotten older, my body doesn’t lose weight as easily as it did when I was in my early 30s. So the process of maintaining my weight loss has begun to change over the past year.
Even though my body is changing and aging, I’ve found ways to stay on track and manage these new challenges. Here’s how I do it, and maybe these tips can help you too if you’re facing similar aging challenges:
Five Tips for Staying Healthy as You Age:
- Change Up Your Eating Habits: I like to practice intermittent fasting when I need to shake up my eating habits, specifically the 16:8 method. As my body has started to change, I’ve tweaked my eating schedule to fit better with how I’m feeling each day.
- Build Muscle with Strength Training: Our muscles get a bit weaker as we get older, but doing exercises like lifting weights can make a big difference. I make sure to do these kinds of workouts regularly, and it helps keep my muscles strong and my body burning calories.
- Drink Plenty of Water: It’s super important to drink lots of water, especially now. Water helps with almost everything in your body, from your digestion to your energy levels.
- Sleep Well: Getting enough sleep can get harder, but it’s really important for staying healthy. I try to go to bed at the same time every night and make sure my room is dark and cool.
- Keep Stress Low: Did you know that feeling stressed can make perimenopause symptoms worse? Keep your stress lowered by journaling, doing meditative breathing exercises, being active, and having good conversations with friends or loved ones.
Staying Positive and Enjoying My 100 Pound Weight Loss
Maintaining a 100-pound weight loss isn’t just about what I eat or how much I exercise. It’s also about feeling good about myself and my life. Here are some ways I keep things positive:
- Love Your Body: I focus on what my body can do and how strong it feels, rather than just how it looks. This helps me feel good about myself every day.
- Find Friends Who Support You: Talking with friends who understand what I’m going through or joining groups online can be really helpful and encouraging.
- Learn New Things: I try to learn more about how food and exercise affect my body as I get older. Knowing more helps me make better choices each day.
- Have Fun Being Healthy: I make sure to enjoy the healthy foods I eat and find fun ways to stay active. This makes being healthy feel like a fun part of my day, not a chore.
As I continue to age and maintain my weight loss, I’m focusing on being healthy and happy! It’s all about adapting and finding joy in every step of the journey. Remember, no matter what challenges you face, you can make choices to stay healthy and feel good about yourself.
