Before I learned about mindful eating, food was never just food for me. I used to gobble down my meals incredibly fast, eat way more than I needed, and just keep eating until my plate was empty—no matter how full I felt. It was like I was in a race to finish everything on my plate, and honestly, for the longest time, I thought this was the normal way to eat. Like a lot of people, I first tried changing how I felt about food by dieting. But honestly, diets just didn’t work for me. They felt far too restricting, and I knew deep down that I couldn’t keep up with a diet for the rest of my life. I wanted to have a true healthy, happy relationship with food. Why Diets Didn’t Work for Me I’ve been on more diets than I can count. Seriously, I’ve tried just about every diet out there. I started my first diet when I was around 13 or 14 years old after my parents suggested I try the Atkins diet. That was my first time feeling like a total failure when it came to my health and weight. Dieting made me dislike so […]

So many of us have a negative mindset toward food. You might not even think you feel negatively toward food until you stop to think about it. Which I encourage you to do. Ask yourself these questions: Do you have a “cheat day”? Do you sometimes feel guilty after you eat something? Do you have foods that are off-limits? Do you overeat without realizing it? Do you use food as a reward? If you answered yes to any of the above then you might not have as great a relationship with food as you think. You might not think that there is anything wrong with having a cheat day but the issue lies in the mindset. Because when you think about it, cheating on anything isn’t exactly positive. And feeling guilty about eating something doesn’t project a positive relationship with food either. But our relationship with food doesn’t have to be that way. This post contains affiliate links. More and more people are admitting to using food as a self-soothing tool. Or as a means to numb their emotions. I have done both many times. And while I’ve gotten much better, I admit that it is still something I have to continuously work on. Working on my emotional eating has been a game changer in my health journey. It’s changed my relationship with food and helped me to lose weight and keep it off. I honestly believe that addressing our deeper emotions and changing how we use food is so important to a healthy lifestyle. But emotional eating still happens. And when it does, it’s important to know ways to stop. Having tools are your disposal will make you feel more confident. Plus, they will help change the way you deal with food and emotions over time. Identify The Reason For The Binge The most important things to do is recognize that you are stuck in a food binge. This might sound easy to some people but part of bingeing behavior […]

While I did eventually hit my weight loss goals, it took decades of trial and error. Which is why I’m trying to so hard to share all that I’ve learned through this blog so that other people can lose weight without it taking decades! Since I was a teenager (and prior to my weight loss), I would constantly gain and lose the same 20 pounds. It was infuriating! But eventually I learned what it was that I was doing that was stopping me from achieving my health goals. So now I’m sharing my errors with you! Read below to see if you’re making any of these mistakes that slow weight loss. You’re […]

This kind of weight loss journey is about so much more than just dropping pounds—it’s about living a life you might not have thought was possible. Over the years, I’ve tried everything from Weight Watchers to imputing my calories into a calories counter app. No matter how simple the system claimed to be, I found counting calories to be really hard. As a result of finding it so hard, I just assumed that healthy eating was something I just wasn’t capable of doing. It took a long time for me to learn that healthy eating is so much more than counting calories. It’s so much more than the type of food you’re eating. Over time, I learned that it is possible to eat healthy while still eating foods that I enjoy. The best part, I learned I could eat healthy without restricting myself. Everything changed when I began to focus on portion size. When I started to focus on eating the right amount of the right foods, my relationship with food truly started to change. More Than Eating Less Calories Portion control is about so much more than eating less. When most people think of portion control […]
