Without trying to sound overly dramatic, Barre Blend has been a life-changing fitness program for me. I know, dramatic. But it came into my life at a point where, physically, I was really struggling. Just before the holidays in December 2019, I herniated a disc in my lower back. If you’ve herniated a disc before, you know it is nightmarishly painful. It was honestly one of the most painful experiences I have ever had, like up there with childbirth seriously. I spent 4 days on complete bed rest. Which meant 4 days wondering how I was ever going to exercise the way I was used too.
As much as my injury was physically challenging, it was also very mentally challenging. If you’re new to my blog, you might not be familiar with my journey of losing 100 pounds. But you can read about that and how I did it in this post. So, not only did I have the fear of slipping backward in my journey but once my back started to heal, the fear of hurting it again was overwhelming. I knew that if I wanted to be exercising again quickly, it had to be super low impact and probably heavily modified.
I had tried the sample workout of Barre Blend before I had the herniated disc but I was still unsure whether a program that’s foundation was in ballet and pilates could actually help me reach my fitness goals. But I was so desperate to get back into my routine that I was willing to give it a shot.
And now, let me tell you all the reasons why I fell in love with this program.

7 Reasons To Love Barre Blend
It Truly Is Low Impact
My worry when I first started Barre Blend was that it wasn’t going to be as low impact as it claimed. Because I needed really low impact, especially during the first few workouts. And I was so happily surprised after those first several workouts that it truly was easy on all my joints, not just my back. The workouts had lots of isometric holds and small range movements but then high rep counts to burn out your muscles.
Normally, I associate low impact workouts with not being very effective but I still can’t believe how sweaty I get during these workouts. It’s crazy! You can check out my daily Instagram stories to see what I mean LOL. And even being so low impact, my legs are easily the strongest they have ever been, and my balance is amazing.
There Is More Than One Modifier
In other programs where I’ve needed to follow the modifier, sometimes it just felt like there needed to be more options. And in Barre Blend there is! It’s really refreshing to have so many options and to not feel like you’re compromising your workout.
I would get so frustrated if I was doing a program that didn’t have a modifier. If I found a move too hard then I wouldn’t do anything because I simply didn’t know what to do otherwise. For me, that felt defeating. But I also found that in some programs that did have a modifier, the alternative move would be too easy. And that too didn’t feel good. So having a program that has so many move options is amazing.
There Is An Intensifier
Because I often do programs more than once, doing the program a second time can feel less challenging. I often wished there was a way to do a program more than one time and have it be more challenging the second time around.
And that’s what the intensifier in Barre Blend does, it gives a more challenging option for those who need it. And the intensifier is definitely intense! I find watching her is so inspiring and gives me something to work towards.
No Dance Experience Needed
So I like to dance but I’m not a dancer by any stretch of the imagination. So workouts that require serious coordination just aren’t enjoyable for me. And most programs that are dance-based are filled with choreography which can be fun but probably more so for people with a dance background.
Barre Blend truly does not require any ballet or dance experience, thank goodness. It does lots of ballet moves but they’re isolated movements. And there are a few prep videos to watch prior to starting the program that really helps with learning new moves.
It Targets The Whole Body
Lots of programs claim to target the whole body but then really only target a few select areas. And often those are key areas so I’m not really complaining. But Barre Blend works the whole body, from your shoulders down to your calves. And it works the whole body every single workout (although some days will have a larger focus, like leg day for example).
It’s A Barre Class But A Chair Works Fine
I love that I can take a Barre class in my home and I don’t even need a bar. You can do all the exercises and movements using any solid surface, like a countertop or a chair. I’ve been using a chair while doing the program and it works great!
I just think it’s so awesome that I can take a high-quality Barre class without leaving my house. And without needing any fancy equipment. All you need is a solid surface to use for balance and 2lb weights.
It’s Really Fun!
My last reason to love Barre Blend is that it is SO fun! I’ve done a lot of fitness programs and I always reach a point where I start to dread the workouts. But I’m almost done the program and I still look forward to my workout each day. I find the workouts to be truly enjoyable, the trainer is just lovely, and I’m doing something completely different to anything I’ve done before.
I love that I can dance around, do my thing and get a great workout without having to worry about choreography. You need to give it a try!
