Do you ever feel nervous or anxious about exercising in public? If that sounds like you, believe me, you’re not alone. For the longest time, I felt exactly the same way. Every time I thought about working out in public, all I could focus on was how uncomfortable I felt. I would notice every little movement of my body, and it held me back from enjoying my workouts or trying new things. I was afraid of what other people might think about how I looked and judge me.
But guess what? I managed to overcome those fears, and today, I’m here to share how you can do the same and start feeling great about exercising anywhere!
Step One: Dress to Impress Yourself!
One of the simplest ways to boost your confidence is by wearing activewear that you love. This doesn’t mean you have to break the bank! Just picking the right outfit—like a pair of high-waisted leggings, a supportive sports bra, and a top in your favorite color—can make a huge difference. When you look good, you feel good, right?
And here’s a little secret: everyone feels better when they think they look good. Choose colors that pop for you, fabrics that feel comfy, and styles that make you feel like good about yourself.
Step Two: Create a Power Playlist
Music has the power to transform our mood. To pump up your confidence, create a playlist filled with songs that make you feel unstoppable—like a true badass goddess! Think about the tracks that make you want to dance or sing at the top of your lungs when no one’s watching. Build your playlist around those vibes. When you’re moving to your favorite tunes, you’ll be so wrapped up in the moment that you won’t even remember to be self-conscious.
Step Three: Bring a Buddy
Everything’s better with friends, including exercise! Working out with a friend can really help ease the nerves that can come along with public exercise. It’s a fantastic way to stay motivated and focused on your workout rather than on the people around you. Plus, it’s just more fun! You and your friend can challenge each other, share laughs, and make some great memories along the way.

Step Four: Take Baby Steps
If the thought of jumping straight into a public workout session sends chills down your spine, start small! Take little steps towards your bigger workout goal. For instance, if you dream of running outdoors or hitting the gym, begin with a long walk in a less crowded area. Or before signing up for a fitness class, try out some exercises at home or with a small group of friends. If joining a sports team is your end goal, practice the necessary skills privately until you feel ready to show off your moves.
Step Five: Remember, No One is Really Watching
Here’s something that might surprise you: most people are too focused on themselves to notice what anyone else is doing. Seriously, think about it. When you’re out, how often are you actually paying attention to other people? Not much, right? Everyone else is the same way. They’re thinking about their own lives, not watching you.
So, if you’re worried about being judged, let that fear go. The truth is, that nearly everyone else is too busy with their own workout or thoughts to focus on what you’re doing.
Step Six: Get Out There
Now that you’ve got these tips, it’s time to put them into action! Start by picking out an outfit that makes you feel fabulous, create that ultimate playlist, call up a friend, and take that first step, no matter how small. Remember, every journey starts with a single step. Your fitness journey doesn’t have to be scary—it can be exciting, empowering, and yes, even enjoyable!
Remember, it’s all about having fun and taking care of yourself. So go ahead, step out there, and start moving in any way that makes you happy. The more you do it, the more natural it will feel. Before long, you’ll be exercising in public like it’s no big deal—because it isn’t! Let’s get moving and have some fun!

Love this! I completely agree with everything you said in this post, people need to start encouraging others more and us women need to be more uplifting when it comes to weight! Nothing discouraged someone more than negative comments. I always tell my clients to stop worrying about what they look like when they work out and keep their eyes on the goal 💪
